This past Wednesday, fathers and daughters of the Ulpana community gathered to share an experience of bonding through Torah learning during this year’s first Father Daughter Learning event. Following the dinner, fathers and daughters learned shiur sources bechavruta. This was followed by an engaging shiur given by BAYT’s esteemed Rabbi Daniel Korobkin, who discussed how we approach the traditional scientific views of the older rabbanims’ peirushim, how this translates into our interpretation of halachot, and what this tells us about the scope of the rabbanims’ wisdom. Initiated by the Chinuch Committee, it was a beautiful chance for the students and parents to engage in the mitzva of talmud Torah together.
The father-daughter program was sponsored by Corrie Spiegel-Diamond in memory of her father’s yartzeit, Shlomo ben David z”l. A survivor of Kristallnacht who would eventually work in real estate investment in Washington, DC, he was blessed to get to know 8 grandchildren, before passing away in 2005.
