The grade 11s and 12s split up to visit three different nursing homes: Baycrest, Kensington Place and L’Chaim. At each location, we opened with a play depicting the story of Chanukah, followed by some singing with guitar and piano accompaniment. We then did a “mock lighting” of the menora with some more singing. In some of the homes, we had time to spread out and speak more personally to some of the residents. It was a very nice experience and a great way to celebrate the holiday. Thank you to: the chessed committee, in particular David Elhadad, Eli Werner and Shlomo Sabovich; our student leaders at each location; Akiva Buckman, Mr. Lazar and Mrs. Tessler for planning and organizing the program; and Rabbi Koperwas, Rabbi Perlmutter, Rabbi Mazer and Mrs. Kagan for chaperoning.
– David Jesin, grade 11 student.
