On Wednesday, the grade 11 and 12 Biology classes participated in a SciHig-Youth Outreach Program, facilitated by the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. We learned about genetics and how it relates to the real world. We looked at samples of dna and discussed how it can be used in a crime scene situation. We even saw samples of our own DNA by missing Gatorade, saliva and rubbing alcohol. They brought in mice that were spliced with jellyfish dna, that glow in the dark when under ultraviolet light. Thank you to Dr. Levy and Ms. Ander for organizing this hands-on program!
