Ulpana’s Yom HaShoah program, organized by the grade 12 girls, focused on dreams and aspirations lost because of the Shoah. They challenged students to consider everyday things we take for granted. For the assembly, students ascended the stairs to the shul slowly in small groups, having a chance to see the pictures in the hallway, while Eli Eli played in the backgroud. As they entered the shul, they heard Adina Samuels playing a haunting piece on her violin. Each chair had a different reading placed on it, focusing on an individual who was a victim of Nazi murder. The choir sang two songs and then various students and faculty were called up to light candles, each candle symbolizing a different theme. Survivor Mrs. Hannah Leczsz spoke, delivering her powerful story. Click here to watch her presentation. Rabbi Grauer recited the Kel Male and a prayer that Rabbi Sacks composed was read as well. Thank you to Ms. Bessin, the grade 12 class, as well as alumni parent Mrs. Lesley Schwartz for organizing this meaningful program.
