At this week’s mishmar, we were joined by a number of YOC alumni. We started by learning in groups with the alumni about being selfless. We looked at examples of people who put their community first, as well as people who didn’t contribute to the community, but only did things for themselves. Rabbi Aaron Greenberg then addressed the entire group, speaking about having a compromise between being selfless, while still doing good for yourself. An example would be with the tower of Babel – those people were selfless; while Noah’s generation was selfish – neither example worked. Rabbi Greenberg spoke about the uniqueness of all individuals – Bnei Yisrael is one nation, made up of different tribes. Individuals must try to achieve their own personal greatness in their own unique way. All individuals come together to do greater things: one person can only achieve so much.
Thank you to the alumni who joined us, as well as Rabbi Greenberg, Director of JLIC Canada.
