In advance of the student council elections, taking place soon after Pesach break, YOC’s presidential candidates engaged in a debate in front of the entire school. The debate was moderated by current president, Jacob Lyons, and Meir Dalfen. The candidates, Ilan Shields and Yishai Dishy, discussed their goals and plans if elected. They spoke about what makes excellent leaders (one candidate quoted Rabbi Sacks – strong leaders don’t have followers, they have other leaders) and what qualities and experiences each of them have, making them strong candidates. Of course, there were some fun questions, including a push-up competition and a “most embarrasing song on your phone” sing-a-long. Congratulations to both candidates on their first-rate performances.
