On Thursday afternoon, Ulpana commemorated Yom Hashoah with an assembly that was presented and organized by the grade twelve students. First, students entered the shul while they viewed a short skit that set the solemn tone for the rest of the ceremony. Everyone then lit their own candle in memory of those who perished, and found their seats while listening to the reading of names of those killed in the Holocaust. The ceremony consisted of an inspirational play, a heart-wrenching monologue, a choir performance of “Shema Yisrael”, and a video presentation of what it means to be a hero. Then, Holocaust survivor Mr. Howard Chandler shared his poignant story of what life was like throughout the war. Thank you to Morah Tanya and the grade twelves for organizing this meaningful assembly.
