YOC’s celebration of Lag BaOmer began with a surprise: a fire drill! The students filed outside calmly, as is expected for a fire drill. However, once lined up in single-file lines on the lawn, the excitement began! Rav Yair led them in song and words of inspiration. Students then all wrote a list of challenges in their lives on pieces of paper, considering how if Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai was able to continue to study Torah despite the restrictions placed upon him by the Romans, our challenges today can surely be overcome. The program concluded with “bonfires” in classrooms, with Rabbi Mazer, Rav Yair, Rabbi Goldberg and Daniel Jehuda leading students in song and words of Torah.
